Running the Gauntlet

This one's gone through many revisions. Started out as a song, with rubbish words. Then, 2 years ago - when i got my first recording machine - I recorded it, but didn't want to sing, so i put solo guitar over the top, improvising stuff. I've re-recorded it about 3 - 4 times since then, and made big changes every time. This is version 5!

Jonny Friday

About a year ago, i did work experience at the studio down the road. This is me messing about with the MIDI stuff.

I played all the drums and stuff in, on the keyboard, cos' i don't have a clue about samples!

For the sound effect, i used a Moog, and for the first bit of the high-pitched riff, an Alesis Andromeda. Cool Keys!

It's so called, cos' Jonny is my first name, and Friday was the day of the week i did it!

Anyway, enough rambling, enjoy listening!

Damnation!

This is a song I wrote about five years ago. Decided to make a decent recording of it, although, I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to mixing songs. I just messed about with the plug-ins in Cubase until I was happy with what was coming out of my speakers.

So yeah, any good tips on mixing/mastering the track better?

My Jesus

This is a song that my and my sister did a while ago.
Yes, it's a Christian song and yes, I'm a Christian.
This was done, oh, about two years ago. I really just wanted you all to hear what my voice sounded like(and hopefully soon know what it currently sounds like) then.
It's slow and simple, didn't take all that much work.
*EDIT*
My good friend Josh Wheeler was the studio technician and made Grace and I sound cool.
Without his musical talents I think this wouldn't have existed!
Now don't get me wrong I can play a guitar decently and pluck some stuff out on the piano. But, in this case my musical talents weren't at work.
*/EDIT*
But it goes to show that you can make redo an already existing praise song, with your own voice, in about an hours time. Give me ratings!!!

*********AND PLEASE PUT YOUR COMMENTS ON THE OTHER SONG, NOT HERE!!!*********

                                                               :scream:

Hi
This one is inspired by that amazing trilogy 'the Matrix'.
I listened to the loop for weeks (not all the time) before ironing it out into this short song.
Yr Un is The One
This was the last song I made, it's about 2 years old, I've been into web-design for that time, web space is now up and running and I've already got my head looping for hours in Cubase.

All my song, lyrics and poetry can be found at www.kingsonone.com,
If someone likes my work I'd like to post some more here on a regular bases.
Well? you like?

*****I've posted the 'Better Quality' version of this song, at: http://forum.bandamp.com/Audio_Review/3629.html*****

Vocal/Synth/Samples - Its not unusual

An experiment, a lesson, an experience.
No drums (JimK'll like that!)

I still have a lot to learn now, but I had loads more to learn then.

I know the bass is wrong, the timings not right, the levels are out, the structures off etc etc, if you do comment, don't state the obvious, give me something to chew on.

I'm not a sound engineer, wish I was though.
Like a vicar might not know how to actually build a Church, he knows exactly what to do once He's inside.

But even after admitting my short comings I'm still happy with it.
And I think you might like it in some way too.

O yes, here's a link to the lyric : http://www.kingsonone.com/motionalPoetry/gair-can/itsnotunusual.htm

Synth/Samples - Santa yn Glos(Pure Porn)

Fruity and Loopy

Done many moons ago in Fruity Loops

It's quite a full on piece

There's a groan in there that was originally a walrus from an Encyclopedia CD Rom

There's some girlie getting banged by a guy with a beard in there

And the "Ooo can I touch it?" which came with Fruity Loops is in there

Let me tell you a story;
I was looking through the wave files on a 'Creatures' game CD, you might know them, little creatures that have lives of they're own on your PC.
Well there were bangs and zoops and gurgling monster sounds, so I took a gurgling monster sound into Fruity, for fun I took it down the scale, when all of a sudden I though I recognised some form of Russian. I reversed the sample and played a bit more with the key, and would you believe it, I'd found "and now for something.." , I picked up the other sample (they are actually named say1.wav and say2.wav if you have the CD Rom) and indeed it was "completely different"

The buggers had nicked the sample from Monty Python for they're monster and I'd found it!

I love it when a plan comes together.

And so they all did in this creation

If you like it let me know, if you don't, go and tell the neighbors

Synth/Samples - Im an Ifal

Full-on samples

This is done in Cubase5, with ERSdrums, Pro52, FM7 and theTAU as instruments and RMF as a sample sequencer.
As effects I opened a SweepDelay, ModDelay,Metalizer, Rotary, Phaser and a Chorus. I haven't used them all.
The vocal was a Sunday morning experiment, playing with the simplest of vocoders, I rendered a few takes, worked them out in WaveLab and put the right ones in the song.

One sample became the vocal the other the 'music'

Its short(ish) full-on and sweet!

Please tell me what you think.
That's why we're here, I think.

Synth/Samples - Party Time

A party song
A happy song

Background:
The drum beat came from royalties free samples MP3 and was the beginning of the song
It was an experiment into understanding the concept of 'drums'

The 'O Le!' comes from a film I'd downloaded of a Granny kicking a baby across a garden ( don't worry I'm not like that, it wasn't real, just well edited)

The bass that comes in is a Triangle2, the synths at the beginning are a CM101 and the Cheeze Machine, there's a Muon Atom in there as well.

This is the original
After making the song I lost all my samples in a crash though I still have the set-up in Cubase its just not the same without those original samples.

Some advice: Always Backup your work

Otherwise:

Party on!

Synth/MIDI - Rowlio Adra

A MIDI experiment, no drums, just midi instruments in rhythm and weaving.

It's longish

If you listen to it all picture yourself on a little round spaceship, bobbing and weaving your way home.

Vocal/Synth/Samples - SpinningWheel

This piece came after 'If I were....' and is still, in that sense, a vocal try out.
There's some beats from DJJean in there as well as many others, most of them played through PhatMatix.

The lyric is inspired by a girl who kept on walking past my kitchen window every morning, she was going to work, I was having breakfast. Then one day as I was leaning against the kitchen top, tea in hand she walked by, this time though she just turned and looked straight at me (with her big brown eyes) and I looked at her and as she passed both my kitchen windows, we just looked at each other the whole time, and that was it.
It had quite a profound effect on me!

Folk-Spectacular Sunrise

Tea and biscuits for the soul

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been checking out the site and I've come to the conclusion that it must have started out as a 'guitar' based music site and that recently more and more 'techie' stuff has been posted.

Quite a natural occurrence seeing as were all siting behind these PERSONAL Computers that can, these day even make the Wizard of Oz look like a toy train operator.

As all my song posting till now have been 'mechanical' I've decided to post some of my earlier stuff from before I sold my soul to Bill Gates.

This is 'Spectacular Sunrise', Lyrics and Vocals by yours truly, music by a wizard called Jim Maguire, his latest music can be found at http://www.laliya.com

It's recorded in Jims front room in Leiden about 13 years ago!!!!! God I've had it.

Any way, what do you think?

This is 'Yr Un', the first song I posted, but this is the UN-COMPRESSED version.
A 'Matrix' inspired composition of samples and synths.

There were comments that the first song was 'Mono' and 'low quality sound',
I hadn't realized at the time that normal MP3s could be uploaded, the first version was the 1,298KB version, this is the 10,379KB version.

So if you didn't like it the last time, don't listen.

Vocal My Dramatic Son

This is my 11year old son at school doing a rendition of a MJackson song, its the whole class and is here because I think its excellent entertainment.
He'd bought a new Ipod thing thing that records, so he's the disruptive little shit you hear the whole time!
I've had to normalize it down a notch to get it clearer.
The screams that erupt half way through are for 'zwarte piet' who apparently walks in at that moment.

Please listen, and he'd like to know what you think

Well bugger my barnacles!

This is what I've been wanting to upload for Sooooo long, and had LOADS of hassles with it. (cite=Tech Support)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now that it's up please have a listen, I'm looking for MUSIC which there seams to be an abundance of on bandAmp.

As you can here it has a 'tune'/'melody' within it.
Any Ideas?
There is more of the lyric, and this is but the first stage, so it can go in many, many directions.

2 Dreams in the Night

Vocals only.

This is being posted purely for feedback.
I'm looking for a bass track a drum track a guitar track and I think some strings would fit in well too.
Tall order? What are you made of?

The lyrics have a structure but I can write in or out as the moment dictates.

You can tell me you have an idea and start a discussion about it, you can post your idea as long as I know where it is or you can send it to me via mail@kingsonone.com

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dreams in the night
Stars in the eyes
Places never been before
To the child in time
The familiar signs
Take forever and more

I am on a journey
To somewhere over there
Say certain things in certain ways
Of which you’re well aware

Dreams in the night
Stars in the eyes
Places never been before
To the child in time
Those familiar signs
Take forever and more

This journey it is me
And so I come to realize
That this journey it is you
But can you see………

……For the dreams in the night
And those stars in your eyes
All those places you’ve never been before
To you now the child in time
These, those familiar signs
Seem to take your forever and more

Somewhere on this journey
Between lost and lonely
Someone told me, it was only
To long for her love

Dreams in the night
Stars in the eyes
Places never been before
To the child in time
The familiar signs
Take forever and more

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd also like to know if you have any ideas but wouldn't do it because you cant relate to the lyric.
As a lyric writer I'd like to hear the musicians point of view of the words!

Thanks

1 If I was you

I wanted to record something, so I did, put it through EQ, compressor and guitar-rig :)

Any questions?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I was you

If I was you I’d turn around and walk away
Do now what the wise man say
Even though, I know
She is everything that makes this day

If I was you I’d give it up and let it go
Go find your self the one you used to know
Even though, I know
It is easily as impossible as she

If I was you I’d run and hide
Listen to that voice inside
But as you know, there’s nowhere to go
When ‘it is here’
Is all her eyes ever cried

If I was you I’d just let them lie, and let it be
I hear them still say to me
But all along, it is this song that drives me on
As it is only here, that she can’t get me wrong

If I was you, I’d do all that I could, I’d do what I should,
I’d reach for the skies
Light up the stars, in their eyes
And take you home
Through the illusions and the lies
And take you home
Where love cries
If I was you,

If I was you.

Thanks for listening , and reading.

Geo had a song up I got carried away with it and ended up recording where I went!
I think Geo heard the vocal differently placed, and I know they are too loud, I just wanted to know what this little critical group thought!

This is a collaboration between MaxB and myself.
MaxB had a song up, I posted a vocal he scrambled them both, quite well too, into a mix, letting me know where he heard the vocal go, and so I went! Well near enough anyway!
It's a lot of vocal again from my side, I like vocals :o !!
And the 'story' might not 'fit' the music, but that's what I'd like to hear from the wonderful masses out there, yes I mean you! :point:

A track made more than 2 years ago, Now that I listen to it again and having been a 'hanger' at the amp I now hear the space within it for 'something else',
It's a fairly simple beat with a bass sound and some vocal samples, so tell me more!!! ;)

This is my version of Marinos 'Changes', actually only the first few bars!!! With vocals!
It's all cut and pasted and shuffled around! And most of the tracks are going through GuitarRig2.
It may sound like it goes on a bit sometimes but that's because it's made of loops and was initially meant as a place to put the vocal idea.
I took what I worked out to be a loop of Marinos guitar and first played with it in ReCycle and WaveLab to get the length and time right, I then listened to Cubase!
The second half of the vocal is a variation of the first!
And the last few bars is the guitar track put through the vocal effects track, just to see!
It's not finished, in that this is the first draft and if I get some creative comments they will be taken on board!
I REALLY want to know what you think!

Folk-My Love And I

This is a song written, played and recorded about 15 years ago.
I still think it's good!!!!
Jim is the magician with the guitar and I kind of sing along!

Here are the lyrics, for those who like to understand!

My love and I

My love and I went flying one day
One day we'll be in paradise
My love and I went flying one day
Across the sea and far away

My love and I had time together
We talked of nothing and the weather
My love and I had time together
We were now never and forever

My love and I walked the green fields
Naturally we let our dreams feel
My love and I walked the green fields
Can't you see the love that is so real?

My love and I went hand in hand
One two three to understand
My love and I went hand in hand
Salt and see the green tree and all the land

My love and I are plane to see
We are all and all are the same
My love and I are planes to see
The peaceful whirlwind is like a flame

And yes it is nice to know what you think!
Yes there are some strange sounds going on , this is recorded from the only tape cassette I have left! So pologies for that but I still think you'll like it !

Folk-Freely

This is another song I had just hanging around, so it might as well hang around here!

This was recorded in Jims front room in Leiden again and like all the other songs we did together this is also a 'one take' recording with his little 4-track.

The lyrics.......

Freely

Did I ever tell you?
Of the things I had in mind
Did they ever tell you?
Of the times you left behind
Did she ever try and sell you
Magic so untouchable
Well you gave
Freely

Did you ever realize?
The looking in my eyes
Was it a surprise?
The thunder of our skies
Will it ever dawn?
That times been here all along
Must the fighting go on?
For we are here
Freely

One day I'll stop looking for one day
Any moment now it will be all right
Some time in time to come
It will be done
Some time deep in the night
You will see
You should have loved her
Freely

Could you really love her?
She says, see I love you
Freely
And you gave your hart and soul
Why do I love the things you do to me?
Set me free

Did I ever tell you?
That the world is one
Did you ever realize?
That you don't until it's gone
And the earth keeps on moving
Beneath out very feet
Moving on and on
On and on and on
Freely

The spirit moves in the captivation of your soul
Freely
And you are the very hart of it all
Set me free

Again thanks for the comments, it's always wonderful to know what this little group of critiques think!

4 EVEN

Number 4 of more.....
Something recent again originating as two hummed lines bringing together a few ideas I had floating around.
A vocal with a little too much tremolo ?
Any one got some vocal recording / end production tips please fire away, it is what I would like to do right !
The words, for those of you who like to sit there singing along!!!

Even when I hold her hand
She is not mine
Even as I let her go
She stays

Even as I call her name
She brakes down and cries
I know that you love me
I can see it in your eyes

How can I ever tell you just how I feel
When everything has somehow gone astray
How can I ever tell her now that I love her so
As I stand before you now she's gone away

Even as I give her all I've got
She still goes and makes it more
Even as I tell her that I understand
She still goes and tells me what its for

If I were to tell you that there's no way out
Would you still want me to take you home?
If I were to show you what it's all about
Could you then ever truly be alone?

Do you know where lovers go
When it's all gone
Do you know now why hart ache sings this song?

Collab-Dont Stop_Dont You Ever

A Collab between Minds and my self in that Minds said "Where's that bloody vocal for Don't Stop" and I said "Shit! you're right...."

It is not the finished product, there are a lot of different issues vocally, but it gives the right idea of where it's meant to go......

PLEASE comment, thank you.

O! yes, the lyrics :

I met her down by the river

I met her down by the river
I met her there down by the rock
I met her then in some down town den
Where she said to me
Don’t you
Don't you
Don’t you ever stop

I met her in a memory
That we’d meet upon the hill
We met a little later in a hotel room
Where no one pay attention
And no no-body paid the bill

We met upon those summer lanes
We would meet there every day
I meet her now and again
She is the most beautiful thing I could ever say

We meet around the one-way street
I’m behind the wheel
She’s in the passengers seat
We met, to never forget
That if you start a fire you can expect to feel the heat

Collab-15Radio_DreamsMean

A Marino tune that I liked and could put something to, so I did and the first take sounds like this.
Took about an hour to do , all I've done is moved the vocal samples around a bit for timing reasons, and put some effects on it to try and make it gel.
Please tell me what you think.
If you can that is.

The Words :

Dreams mean nothing my friend

I believe that it’s meant to be
I believe that it’s all up to me
I believe as you can see
I believe, believe you me

This is that burning
This that drives me on
This is that love
This that is here until it is gone

Dreams mean nothing my friend
In the end
You’ve got to die for the dreams that you live

Dreams mean nothing my friend
All along
You’ve got to fight for the piece that you need

And when all hope is gone
I’ll still sing this song
I’ll just carry on
Like I’m meant to

And when it’s in the dark I hide
And all my tears are cried
Im on my own not by your side
I will look out from here.

And I will see
As I believe
That it’s meant to be
All up to me

Cheers ;)

The last but one of my 15 year old recordings.
It's the only recording I have so please excuse the fact that it was not the best take, from my point of view as the one who wrote and sung it.
Jim played it, as he did for all this lot of 'Folk' songs that I have posted, and what a bloody good job he did of it too!
If anybody wants the lyrics up, I'll post.
Otherwise listen and tell me what you think !

Well, here is my first post! The recording is not great and the singing even worse, but I'm working on the recording and trying to sing better :)

There it is, I hope you like it.

ADHD

Verse:
I never want to follow
But my fear keeps me here
I think I'll start tomorrow
When my head becomes more clear

Mondays gone and Tuesdays calling
Still me head is in last week
I think I'll start tomorrow
Set my feet upon the street

Chorus:
The ticking of the clock sends
Fire shooting through my veins
A wild inferno in my brain
Still I travel on eventhough they say I'm to far gone
I will climb aboard that train

Verse:
Relax and take a moment
To let the demons fall asleep
Take the time to move forward
Before I fall in too deep

I can't concentrate much longer
The world is spinning around me
Maybe ships of calm and somber
Will deliver me some peace

Go Away

Forgotten in this world made of pain

And friendly sounds have all gone away

To taste the sting of cold bitter steel

And brush off the reasons we all feel

In darkness there is comfort indeed

For all of you my heart doesn't bleed

And save for me the fires below

I want to leave here I just want to go

I just want to go

Tonight I want to leave this scattered show

I just wana take a trip away

I just want to leave here today
